CAS Christmas - Bird

Hello Wednesday!

Can you believe it's October?  Doesn't feel like it yet here in NC, but then it rarely feels like Fall before November.  It would be nice to have some cooler temperatures.  I'll have to "think snow" I guess!

It is time for a new challenge at CAS Christmas Card Challenge so that helps to make it feel "cooler".

Susan is our hostess this month.  She has selected the theme of BIRDS.

I purchased the recent Stamp of Approval Collection by Catherine Pooler Designs called Home for the Holidays.  It has a lot of great Christmas stamps and dies in it.  One of them is a set of "Christmas Cookie" stamps, and this bird is one of those.  I chose to use just the die with Nuvo gold gilding flakes.  I cut the bird, smooshed it in Versamark and added Stampin' Up stick it powder and heat set it.  Then I just pressed the gilding flakes onto the sticky adhesive until it was all set then took a stiff, dry paint brush an brushed off the excess.

The ornament was made by creating a background using the tree stamp from CP Festive Trimmings (part of the same SOA collection), inverting it as I stamped to create a square pattern and cut a circle from it.  I cut a gold trim from using two circle dies as well to frame it. I glued it all together, added some gold twine to the bird to connect to a gold bow die at the top.  The pine "hook" was stamped onto a white cardbase using the same color as the ornament background, CP All That Jazz.  The sentiment is from the Winterhaven SOA of 2017 stamp set, Poinsettia.

Now stop by the CAS Christmas Challenge blog and check out the rest of the team's fabulous inspiration using birds!  It's now less than three months away from Christmas.  Do you have your cards ready?  Come play along with us this month and add to your stash!  Just remember to keep it CAS!

This gold gilding flake covered die cut bird looks stunning against the blue stamped background and the added stamped piece for the hook in the same colour works really well with such a pretty die cut gold frame and bow, and a complementary blue sentiment to finish. A beautiful card. x

Your gold gilding flake bird is so beautiful, especially against the dark blue/green holiday pattern background! Using the different sizes of circle and making the two-layered gold trim is such a great idea for additional dimension!

TFS all the tips in making your gorgeous ornament, Nance. I have SU Heat and Stick from way back..you have given me inspiration to use with Gilding Flakes. I thought you die cut Designer paper for your ornament. Surprised it was a very pretty detailed stamp. TFS your beauty, my friend. Hugs...Nancy

A very late comment from me - I'm just catching up with commenting on all the CAS DT cards I missed while on vacation! Love your bird ornament with the beautiful blue background and the gold gilding flakes. I must try that technique of using the stick it powder with the gilding flakes.
