21 Party Time

Good evening!  I've been offline for a bit but tonight I have a bright and cheery celebratory card to share!  Today was my oldest son's 21st birthday and so I'm sharing the card I made for him.  At first, I had thought to make him a very grown up masculine card and then I decided to go with a bright and cheery "party" themed card.  Since he is in Oklahoma and we are in North Carolina, we had to celebrate with him via Face Time earlier and got to toast him on his day.

I used the layout on The Case Study for the card.  I chose a color theme using DP Fresh Goods from Pebbles and coordinating cardstock.  I used number stamps I've had forever and the sentiment is from Inkadinkadoo.  I used the star Framelits die from Sizzix and stamped the "21" on a circle die from Spellbinders.  The chevron strips were cut with a chevron border punch.  The smaller stars were finished up with red star brads.

SPIES:
Stamps:  Sentiment - (Inkadinkadoo).  Numbers-stash.
Paper:  white, red, yellow, green, navy cardstock.  DP - Fresh Goods (Pebbles).
Ink:  Versamark; Red emboss powder.

Fleur De Owl

This card was a dual winner this week for TPE Challenge #186!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! Wishing everyone a day full of love and chocolates!  However, in the Salkeld house there will be no chocolates per my request. I had TOO many of them over Christmas. But...we have PLENTY of cupcakes, Gigi's cupcakes! Soooo scrumptious! Of course, not really any better than chocolates, but just one Gigi's cupcake will fix any sugar fix for a very long time!

Aren't they mouthwatering?  And, I've been very good since picking them up yesterday NOT to indulge until later tonight after dinner. Oh, and just in case you are wondering, they aren't ALL for me! The Hubs and I are splitting two of them, have one to ourselves and the other 2 are for our youngest son.  I will then be vigorously moving for at least half of the next four days as Monday I go for my annual physical.  Yeah, I know great timing on my part to schedule my physical so close to Valentine's Day!  Anyway, on to the other priority ---- my card.

I was inspired by the inspiration photo at Scrapbooker's Paradise challenge for this week to make a card  for a loved one or inspired by a loved one.  And, the themes at Daring Cardmakers and The Pink Elephant, both being 'love is in the air' rounded out my idea.  My oldest son's fiance loves owls and with the photo inspiration and her love of owls, this is what I created:

I started by cutting out shapes with various die cuts --- circles, hearts, pennants(triangles) for ears and those lovely Tim Holtz wings for templates.
Next,  I  cut some out of cardstock and designer paper and pieced them together.  You can't see it very well, but the owl body (the roses) has a background of plaid paper. Then, I stuck all those pretty mini prima roses to the heart.  The head and ears I cut larger grey triangles and circle and smaller ones from the DP.

The eyes are clear/white buttons with pink heart buttons and the nose is a light pink heart button.

I should have photographed the inside, which I made another heart shape and attached a poem I downloaded.

SPIES:
Stamps:  Sentiment - (Studio G).
Paper:  White and grey cardstock.  DP - Love Me & Follow Your Heart (My Mind's Eye); Assorted DP-bargain designer paper from Michaels.
Ink:  Love Letters (Memento);
Extras:  Circle, pennant and heart Frameabilities (Sizzix); Tattered Wing die cut (Tim Holtz); prima mini roses; white buttons heart buttons; white embroidery thread.

I already published this, but had to go back and add a pic of my beautiful roses from the Hubs this morning to share!  Along with the roses, I got my favorite breakfast (from Bob Evans) by candle light no less, a storebought, but sweet, card and Zumba workout for the Wii.  The last was upon MY request!  Otherwise, I probably would have gotten chocolates and jewelry, which I've had enough of lately.  Yes, I DID say that!  LOL

Spread some love today!

Smooches!

Another simple card tonight for Moxie Fab World's Tuesday Trigger challenge.   I just love this color combination and the photo made me think of my scribble heart stamp so I used it here.  Like the photo, I wanted the card clean and simple.

Stamps: Heart (Recollections); distressed background stamp (Stampede); sentiment (Taylored Expressions).
Paper:  white cardstock.
Ink:  Deep rose (Colorbox); Sky Blue (Memento).
Extras:  Heart Frameabilities die; red prima flower; red gem dots.

XXXOOO!

Big Hugs

Happy Sunday to all!  Hope everyone is warm and safe, particularly all those who found themselves in the path of Nemo and Orko.  I guess even if the Groundhog predicted an earl spring, winter wants to makes it mark before it leaves.   So to all my blogging/crafting buddies up north,  this post is for you -- a small and simple card with BIG Hugs!

I've had that little elephant stamp since the beginning of my stamping days and have rarely used him.  I wanted him to be front and center, well kind of, and so I decided to put the sentiment on a tag and make a tag holder on the front of the card.

I love making kraft cards and The Kraft Journal always has fun challenges and this past week the theme was "Seeing Red"

SPIES:
Stamps:  Sentiment (My Favorite Things); Elephant (Studio G).
Paper:  Kraft and red cardstock.  White card stock. Tan tag; DP--Be Happy (My Mind's Eye); burlap.
Ink:  jet Black (Staz On).
Extras:  Scallop 3x3 die cut (Taylored Expressions); red foam heart; red glitter hearts; corner rounder, raffia twine.

XOXOXO!

Love Lines

TGIF!  More Valentine posts this evening.  Got the idea to "pen" a Valentine so here it is.  I bounced around a couple different ideas for this --- drawing a red line from the pen to "love" or "XO"; then I used a swirl border punch, until I remembered this digital sentiment I had.  It is actually a flower stem.  And I added a small red heart inside of the locket.
SPIES:
Stamps:  Pens (Tim Holtz); Digital Sentiment (Cutting Cafe).
Paper:  Black, white and red cardstock.
Ink:  Jet Black (Staz On); Computer ink.
Extras:  Lace doily heart; emboss folder(Stampin' UP); lacey scallop circle(Spellbinders); decorative ribbon; black ribbon; heart charm.

Happy Weekend!

Cool Yule

Okay, yeah, I know, it's February, almost Valentine's Day, not Christmas.  Well, I'm still feeling like I need to redeem my creative ability and this little guy was hiding in my photos and I discovered I neglected to post him over the holidays.  I made it for my oldest son, who loves penguins.

I started with a kraft card base, added a green ribbon along one side.  The background paper is from a prize pack I won from a fellow blogger, Jessi Fogan.  Click on her name and visit her blog with all her beautiful work and crafty wit.  The foreground paper is homemade using Dylusions paints on watercolor paper.  I distressed the edges of both background papers and added a border of red cardstock behind each.  The cute penguin pyramid stamp is by Repeat Impressions.  I stamped it on white cardstock, colored with Copics and added snow pen to the fur part of the hats.  I fussy cut the image, added a silver star brad and popped it up on the homemade paper.  The sentiment, from Repeast Impressions also,  was stamped directly onto the painted paper.  I finalized the card with two green and one red gems.

Beautiful Dreams -- ReDeux

Awww.  So much better.  A redo and trim down of a previous card that was just painfully wrong.   Just have to love the ole creative process and power to change and revamp!  I think this comes off much more elegant.

Here is a photo of the "before" disaster:

A true example of always following the "less is more" motto.  I am claiming a sudden onset of Senior Moment here along with lack of proper sleep.  Eeeww!  What a nightmare.  But at least it's over now and we can all breathe a little easier again!

Showers of Love

Good Morning!  Posting early today, for once!  Only one however, then it's off to the wonderful dentist for a cleaning and a little shopping and late lunch with the Hubs!  So, I can bare a little discomfort before the shopping and eating!  LOL

A simple card this morning for a new challenge (for me anyway) at CAS(E) This Sketch, as well as several others.  I've posted links below for all of them.  I have had this umbrella digi stamp for forever and I don't know why I have never used it til now!  I actually printed it out twice, then colored one and cut it out and posted it on top of the other.  I left the handle on the original.  I colored it all with Copics as I did with the "falling" hearts.

SPIES:
Stamps: Umbrella and Sentiment -digi stamp, not sure which line, as it is fairly old; Small heart (My Favorite Things).
Paper:  White, red, pink cardstock.  DP - Very old from stash, maybe The Paper Co.
Ink:  Jet Black (Staz On).  Copics.
Extras:  Scallop rectangle die (Spellbinders); scallop border punch; red buttons; pink and red raffia.

Itty Bitty Valentine

Happy Monday!  Yeah, I know it's almost over.  Just a little late again in posting.  You would think that itty bitty cards would be easy peasy to make with so little room to work with, but somehow it managed to take me longer than I thought.  Yet, maybe it's just because once I started, little itty bitty ideas kept creaping out of the ole noggin'!  LOL

Here is my take for an itty bitty card, size 3x3, for the Itty Bitty Card Challenge over at Moxie Fab World.  My inspiration for the colors came from the PINspiration challenge, which I missed, but I posted the photo of the inspiration here anyway.  And, I also doubled the fun and added my own background design for another Moxie Fab challenge, "make your own background paper".  So doubling up on the Moxie Fabbiness tonight you could say!

SPIES:  Sunburst border (Inkadinkadoo, I think.  It's one of my very first stamp sets so not sure); Sentiment (My Favorite Things).
Paper:  White, purple, yellow cardstock.  DP: Indie Bloom (Basic Grey).
Ink:  Tuxedo Black, Love Letter, Tangelo, Teal Zeal, Cottage Ivy, Grape Jelly and Dandelion all from Memento.
Extras:  Fleur De Lis Shapeabilities die (Spellbinders); Pinwheel die (Tim Holtz); Orange heart button; red heart brad; teal ribbon; pop dots.
